2012 Acadia 5 oz Silver Coins
The latest release in the US Mint’s 2012 P America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin Series features Acadia National Park. Located off the coast of Maine, the National Park was the first east of the Mississippi. It was originally named Lafayette National Park upon its creation in 1919, and later renamed Acadia in 1929. The park covers over 47,000 acres, including land on Mount Desert Island, Isle au Haut, parts of Baker Island and a portion of Schoodic Peninsula on the mainland of Maine. Visitors can enjoy mountains, woodlands, lakes, an Atlantic Ocean shoreline and both land and marine wildlife.
The reverse design of the coin features a gorgeous rendition of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse sitting high above the rough coastline of one of Acadia’s island shores. Inscribed on the perimeter around the design is ACADIA, MAINE, E PLURIBUS UNUM and 2012. The coin measures an impressive three-inches in diameter, weighs 5 troy ounces, and contains .999 fine silver. Like all 5oz ATB collector versions before it, the 13th release in the series is produced with an uncirculated finish at the Philadelphia US Mint and therefore display a “P” mint mark. Furthermore, the edge of each coin is incused with the coin’s fineness and weight.
